TV butterflies in my stomach

Do you know that feeling when you start a new series and you feel butterflies in your stomach, for it is so good and addictive you can´t believe it?? Well I just had that amazing feeling and I am so glad it has happened again because I go through all day waiting for the moment I get to start a new episode, making it almost  impossible to not watch it all in a 24/7 marathon.

This new series is "Gran Hotel" and the fact that it is a spanish series, so well produced, well written and incredibly acted, makes it an even better experience I ever could have thought. It is usually english spoken series, specially from the United States that catch our attention, for it is known that they are the children of the great father of Hollywood, their resources are much better than those in any other country, they have the most famous actors and the most acclaimed writers and producers. But sometimes we can be surprised and utterly freshened with a new series that doesn´t come from this source of almighty american television.
New countries with powerful new talent seem to be arising, we can see it with series like Capadocia an HBO Latin America show nominated for three international Emmy´s or A mulher invisível  (The Invisible Woman) a brazilian comedy show, that won this year the same award.
In my opinion Gran Hotel is one of this emerging sources, being compared with Downtown Abbey from Britain, and called the small Downtown Abbey is one great accomplishment by itself, but I truly believe that this Spanish series is not a copy or a smaller version of an already great show, but on the contrary, it can also be recognized by a great amount of singular and personal qualities. 
Gran Hotel is a mistery and you have to peel layer by layer to get to the conclusion, every time you end an episode you are so intrigued with the new story line you can´t wait to discover what´s in the next one. 
The art is impeccable and the settings where this beautiful world is created are simply marvelous. Palacio de la Magdalena in Santander, the main setting where it is filmed, is just an incredible historical view of Spain, in the end you are fully transported to a place where luxury sorrounds you, mystery creeps on you in every corner, love and passion fill the air and the 1900´s with all those new inventions like the Cinematograph, electric light and the phonograph appear to be revolutionizing you.
Profound performances from young sexy actors Amaia Salamanca (sin tetas no hay paraíso) and Yon Gonzales (El internado) seem to feel us with yearning and hope for their love.
And with great actors like Concha Velasco and Adriana Ozores we are surely in for a great treat.

You can´t miss it!! I am sure you will become just as addicted as I am right now ;)!!

The perks of being a wallflower/A movie that changed me

When we talk about a movie we can describe the artistic characteristics that make this movie great and we can consider it as a real piece of cinematography for its various aspects. But today I am not here for that, I merely want to write about this particular movie because it made an impact in me. Have you ever read, heard or watched something that you identify yourself with?? Something that when it finishes you just keep staring at it, processing it all, for it affected you somehow. I personally love when that happens because when it does, you instantly make it a part of you, at some point it even makes you want to change things or at least it makes you feel like you are not so alone in this world, for there is something out there that expresses what you have been unable to express.

The Perks of being a wallflower

I can call myself guilty of watching this movie twice in just two days, and I could sincerely admit that I could watch it every day. I can not say that I have been affected by the same problems that the characters have, but the fact that confussion, anxiety, doubt, insecurity, pain and love are a big part of my messy mind each day, is what made me go out of the cinema and say Wow! we are all lost in this world, we are all just trying to figure out what we want, what we are. Pain is present every day in our lives but it is the people who we share it with and how we decide to leave it in the past and start to create our future that is truly important.
I don´t want to spoil anything for all of you that want to go watch it, my only point here is to share this amazing movie that made me feel less alone in a time of my life where things can get kind of blurry.
Its characters are portrayed by amazing young actors, impressively directed by the same person who wrote them and all of their complex and endearing personalities, Stephen Chbosky, a man who took the essence of the pain and complication that it is being young and finding your path through this confusing world.
It is the combination of the soundtrack (the smiths, david bowie, sonic youth, etc), the capture of the images, the reality and truthness of the story and the incredibly and surprising acting of this three young persons, Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson), Emma Watson (Harry Potter) and Ezra Miller (we need to talk about kevin), oh yeah and the brief participation of my personal love Paul Rudd :), that make this movie amazing. A movie that changed me and that inspired me to get my head off the ground and breath a little deeper. I wish it can do the same for all of you and you get to enjoy it as much as I did.

UN CLÁSICO EN LA HISTORIA, EL PREPPY LOOK.

MODA MASCULINA

EL ESTILO PREPPY

Ser un verdadero hombre preppy no solo requiere tener un outfit definido o una ropa de marca preferida, aunque es reconocido que algunas marcas como Polo Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste, J.Press y Southern Tide son las marcas originarias y fieles creadoras de este look, el verdadero preppy look proviene de la actitud y para dominar este look tan clásico y reconocido, se requiere una atención a los verdaderos detalles.

Todo comenzó en los años 40’s y 50’s cuando los estudiantes de las llamadas Universidades “Ivy League” transformaron esta cultura universitaria en lo que se convirtió en el estilo preppy. Harvard, Princeton y Yale, transformaron la actitud y moda de estos hombres intelectuales, deportistas y de sociedad en un estilo de vida. Esto es, en esencia lo que nosotros llamamos preppy, aquella actitud clásica y perdurable, que se mantiene en los caballeros que desean aparecer ante la vida como hombres tradicionales y elegantes, siempre manteniendo un look limpio y acertado.

Si uno admira este tipo de actitud y de moda, se tiene que comenzar por algún lado y estamos seguros que siguiendo estos 5 pasos, uno puede llevar el estilo preppy a la perfección.

1)     Usar playeras estilo rugby, pantalones chinos y camisas en colores claros.

Como mencionamos anteriormente la pasión por los deportes clásicos y de sociedad, era una parte muy importante en estos primeros hombres de estilo preppy y hasta ahora es una de las bases que siguen presentes en este look tan especial, es por eso que las playeras estilo rugby, deporte que se origino en Inglaterra y se expandió internacionalmente, nunca deben faltar.

Los chinos, pantalones de algodón denso llamados así por su origen en China, son muy populares para ir elegante pero con un tono mas informal. Básicos en el estilo preppy, pues dan un toque de mayor comodidad sin perder la elegancia misma de el look.

Las camisas claras, son indispensables, sin ellas el look es básico y aburrido, este toque de color, suave y discreto es lo que nos transporta a una nueva era de moda y estilo. Perfectas para el verano y el otoño, con colores como el amarillo, verde, lila o rosa pastel y en un  tono mas frío como el azul para el invierno.

2)     Utilizar colores clásicos y poco llamativos.

El color en este look es lo mas importante, es lo que divide entre lo aburrido o llamativo y pone al estilo preppy justo en el medio, destacando una vez mas lo tradicional y elegante de este.

Aunque por ninguna razón esta es una lista definitiva y lo más importante es el gusto y la creatividad personal, se recomienda el uso de colores como el azul cielo, azul marino, verde lima, rojo y amarillo. Lo más importante es que escojas colores que le vayan e intensifiquen tus características físicas personales, por ejemplo, el pelo claro combina mas con el verde y los ojos cafés pueden llevarse mejor con un color como el rojo.

3)     Crea un look limpio y cómodo.

Recuerda que para completar un outfit y que este se vea elegante y bien presentado, se necesita de accesorios como el cinturón y para este estilo en especial se sigue la principal regla preppy mencionada anteriormente, no ser extremista, es decir no inclinarse hacia lo llamativo sin caer en lo aburrido, es preferible mantenerse en lo clásico como los tonos cafés, desde el chocolate hasta el café claro, es importante que el cinturón sea de piel o de tela con puntas de piel, si lo que buscas es un poco mas informal. Asegúrense que no tenga materiales extras como piedras o estoperoles.

4)     Usen zapatos apropiados con el estilo y la época.

Recuerden mantenerse en la misma línea del estilo preppy, con zapatos clásicos como los mocasines, pero tengan en cuenta que tienen que adaptarse al clima y a la época del año, o resultaran en una combinación extraña y fuera de tono. Los mocasines son ideales para el frío pero si comienza el calor y se pretende viajar a lugares con agua, lo mejor es combinarlo con unas flip flops de piel o unos top siders.

5)     Se fresco y limpio.

Por último y lo mas importante para todo hombre preppy, mantente bien estilizado, las uñas limpias, la barba rasurada, el pelo bien peinado y acompañado de una aroma fresco y agradable, como la loción de hombre de Burberry o Ralph Lauren, de gran éxito con las mujeres.

Los jeans rotos, los tatuajes y los aretes son el contrario absoluto de este estilo, a si que si desean portar esta moda, traten de evitarlos, y recuerden que lo más importante, es la actitud, siéntanse seguros con su resultado final.

I literally cried when i saw this pictures, we go around the world mostly feeling sad or rage for the tragedies we hear and see everyday, we are being bombarded by images of war, murders, drug and corruptness, we live in a world where we start to get disconnected from all that pain, simply to save ourselves as human beings into turning mad.
Can you all tell me what you felt with the first Juarez woman victim, or with the first horrible war picture you saw?? At first we were horrorized and traumatized, but with the second, the third, and more, we have started to become apathetic, we distance ourselves and start to respond without a care anymore, losing faith in our humanity. But a simple post like this, has made me at least for a moment believe again in us, in the hearts and compassion of the brothers and friends that surround us, because at the end, that is all we are, soul and mind, for we leave with nothing but the mark and love we have left in this world. So don't lose hope in respect, in compassion, in friendship, in love, we are humans, let us be humans and enjoy that humanity.

GUILTY PLEASURES

Hey everybody! who doesn't have guilty pleasures?!, those geeky, cheesy, weird, or simply not worldly known tastes, that make us crave for more and secretly enjoy what we know no one else is popularly following.
Well i come here today with a little bit of a confession, well not so much of a confession, for i am not one to hide my pleasures, or even to find them really, truly guilty, i just call them that because some people think that  is what they are for me, since they are so rare or recognized, at least in some social groups, but still guilty for they are what i proudly enjoy as a unique personal taste.
My guilty pleasure today, is nonetheless as i assure many have them too, a soap opera, but not just any soap opera, it is Cris Morena's Argentinian soap operas. Personally, this woman is a great producer, director and writer, she is the one that has brought joy and hope to millions of children, teens, and even adults with her work. She includes in her content not just romance or drama like most soap operas, but also a mixture of great characters that take you by the hand on a journey of self discovery, music and epic stories with social messages, like Casi Angeles or Alma Pirata, with transcending time lines, and apocalyptic governments. She has created a family within her coworkers and she is faithful to her actors, some of them have even grown up into adulthood by her side.
She has grown artistically since her first work with Chiquititas till her last with Casi Angeles, where she said a melancholic goodbye, after enduring her daughter's death and what she said to be "the ending of her inspiration".
Israel, Spain, Mexico and of course Argentina, as the main consumers of her work, responded her goodbye with sadness in their hearts, but her creations still endure, and within them some of my greatest guilty pleasures.

Don't miss them for I assure you, they will lighten your heart and take you back where childhood dreams are still alive :)!!

It starred Emilia Attias, Nicolas Vasquez, Mariano Torres and in season 4, the music group Teen Angeles, that was created during the series consisting of Mariana Espósito, Eugenia Suárez, Pedro Lanzani, Nicolas Riera and Gaston Dalmau.

More of the classics....

Hey everybody!! As I promised, I return once again with more of our beloved classics, this time with one that takes us directly to our childhoods, a classic that gave us music, dancing, profound and complicated characters, and a series of inspired movies, musicals like "Wicked" and more, I am talking about "The wonderful wizard of Oz".
It all began on 1939 when an amazing actress like Judy Garland jumped to fame with the role of her life, in a movie that amazed people with its colors, makeup and effects, giving the audience the opportunity to travel to a magical land along Dorothy and Toto. A movie that not also followed truthfully the literature work of L.Frank Baum, but that also took elements of the American society of that era and included them all over it. If you study profoundly and compare the situation of the United States of the 1930's and that of the movie, you can encounter various symbolisms along the film, some of them are in its characters, like the tin man, you can tell that the industrial workers are reflected in him, men that worked for the great need of doing it, but that lacked heart at it as the machines took over in a new industrial revolution, or the scarecrow, another of the beloved characters, representing the farmers as brainless honest men who worked for a bigger meaner boss.
To sum it all up, it is a film that arrived to revolutionize a massive audience, and that still continues to be a renowned classic, for all the social, creative, musical and innovative elements it portrays.
And now coming soon in 2013, by the hand of Sam Raimi, the creator of another fantasy world, Spiderman and Spiderman 2, comes "Oz, the great and powerful", inspired on the story before the events of the 1939 film and the original book. When Oscar Diggs a small circus magician with dubious ethics, played by our very own enigmatic and sexy man James Franco, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of us, where he will meet, the witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams). 

So if all of you Oz fans want to remember your childhoods and once again travel to the land of Oz, this time i most say with a very sexy and beautiful group of people, i invite you to wait with great expectation and excitement for what it seems another great work of art.I leave to you all my second classics trailer ;) hope you enjoy!!

Classics reborn....

In a culture where we tend to love and admire with all our hearts when we see something we really like, classics are born, culture is nurtured and fans are reinforced.
We have classics in literature and movies, pieces of art, that make us find an even greater sense in life, make us want to be better, and give us hope and joy.
Classics are a form of life, and they are for sure a part of every one of us.
During history, books have been there to open minds, and later on movies inspired by those have made fans finally get the chance to visualize their own minds and imaginations in the big screen. I know all of you have stories and characters that you hold close to your heart, and the great thing is that some of those stories are coming to life again, expecting to amaze us once again in theaters this year.
Since i absolutely love all of this remakes, i will continue to share with you the trailers of this upcoming great stories, that have made a fan of all of us.

THE GREAT GATSBY
A story full of life and color, in a society where parties ruled the scene, and fashion with a good cocktail never seemed to be missing. For all those great Fitzgerald fans, Baz Luhrman has arrived once more with a world of wonder and beauty, all those who love Moulin Rouge, a good society vendetta and well of course Leonardo Dicaprio, will fall in love with what seems to be an awesome movie.

We can't wait for it to be Summer 2013!!

From the bottom of my heart

Hey fellow readers!, I am so sorry I haven't been able to write another entry sooner, but I am hoping that all of you have been enjoying your summer to the fullest!!!
I wanted to finish this summer, sharing with you all a very special tribute I wrote to the best man I've ever known, my hero, my teacher, my mentor, a man i will always admire, respect and most of all love, my dad.
Everyone has to carry with a heavy weight during our lives, well mine is the recent loss of my dad, but as the time has passed, I have come to understand not every weight has to be carried with sorrow or pain, it can also be carried with love and admiration, because I know my dad still lives within me, and it is my purpose from now on, to carry him in my heart with my head held up high, making him proud with every decision and action I get to perform for the rest of my life. Therefore, with great pride and love, I share this piece of myself with all of you kind readers, because if you knew my dad, you can all agree he was the hero I am talking about, and well if you didn't I am sure each and every one of you have a personal hero close to your heart.
Thank you for letting me share this with you all, and i apologize with all my international friends, for it is in Spanish, the language i shared with my dad.

¿QUÉ ES UN HEROE?

Un héroe puede ser el que tenga gloria eterna, aquel héroe inalcanzable y misterioso que su nombre, por hazañas como la guerra queda en la boca de las personas, pero no es un verdadero héroe, un héroe es aquel con habilidades extraordinarias, no habilidades que lo hagan un dios o un superhéroe, sino características humanas que sean admirables, como la capacidad de amar antes que todo, la fortaleza de mantener en sus espaldas a toda a una familia, amigos, compañeros de trabajo, con una sabiduría intelectual, que lo hace reconocer entre los miles, un jefe que sabe ser líder con compasión y templanza, un hombre humano con el poder de entendimiento del mundo que lo rodea, con la inteligencia para tomar las decisiones mas difíciles con la seguridad y firmeza necesaria, y en especial aquel hombre que sabe disfrutar de la vida, amar y agradecer lo que día a día se le presenta, y es con todos estos rasgos extraordinarios, que comprendí que es un héroe, por dios lo había tenido en mis narices todo el tiempo, un verdadero héroe, es mi padre.

Mi padre es Superman, mi padre es Perseo, mi padre es mejor que Aquiles, mejor que cualquier héroe que ha pisado la tierra, si, si, yo sé que van a decir, que exagerada niña, pero por dios como no puedo decir aquello, si mi padre me ha demostrado desde el día que nací, que la vida es bella, que las acciones deben ser tomadas con sabiduría, que el poder conlleva responsabilidad, que el trabajo se tiene que tomar con pasión y en especial que la familia es lo mas importante. Un hombre como este no se encuentra en cualquier lado, una persona que sabe equilibrar la familia, los amigos y el trabajo con el mismo éxito, es un hombre que verdaderamente es único, es un verdadero guerrero y rey de nuestra realidad.

Ese es un héroe, y tengo el gran honor de decir, ese es mi padre.                  

Stripper Teddy... wait, what?!

The world has changed and woman and men along with it, we used to define ourselves by cliches, and the movies we saw reinforced them and made them stronger, men identified with action movies filled with hot babes and sport cars, and women with their "chick flicks". Well those times have changed and the cinema world has once again surprised us all, this time by the hand of two beloved, dark humored directors; renowned funny man, Seth McFarlane, who adventures himself for the first time in the big screen after his successful and one of my personal favorite TV shows, Family guy, along with action movie master, Steven Soderbergh, famous for his thrilling blockbusters, like the Ocean's Eleven trilogy.

This two ironic men have interchanged audiences and made us beg for more, who would have thought that in this unique summer, girls would run to the theaters to watch a stripper, and boys would wait with excitement for a story about a teddy bear.
Well, this guys have done it, and I find myself applauding them for bringing some personality to this summer's movie listing.

SUNDAY SEXY TIME

As I mentioned before, when I started this blog, love and sex are one of the things that make life really amazing, and this is a fact I'm sure every romantic girl, and every...well.... guy, would agree!

But sex is not just the act, it is also about feeling good with yourself, loving your body, no matter what size, shape or color it is, sex is about enjoying that sexiness within, letting yourself be unique, and being proud of what you are.

A taste of modern Mexico

They say food is one of the greatest pleasures in life, and personally I couldn’t agree more, all my life I had a father who loved food more than anything else, but not just any food, it had to be good food, ingredients that would water your mouth and stay in your mind in the long run, dishes that could represent an entire country and that would evoke memories and places.

Well yesterday I didn’t just get to enjoy some really good food, I also got to honor my father, a great Mexican man, with some extremely well prepared Mexican plates.

RAÍZ (Av. de los Jinetes 102, Col. Las Arboledas, Atizapán de Zaragoza, Estado de México)

Raíz, is not just any regular Mexican restaurant, it is an odyssey of flavors and culture.

Mexican food is known for its spices and the combination of strong flavors like chili, cacao and more, well this restaurant is not just a tribute to all this amazing flavors that have been passed through history, intensifying our culture and traditions, most importantly, its a clash between our history and our past, with that of a modern, new Mexico.

From the food to the place, you can feel at home, just like eating at your grandma’s house savoring that safe and yummy mole, combined with that extra touch of being in a lounge, in a cool and hip Mexico city.

A restaurant with contrasts, just like our Mexico is. A restaurant with elegance and culture, supervised by a great chef, named Arturo Férnandez, who I personally know and admire, a person that puts his whole self in every bite and corner of Raiz.

If you want to enjoy a great taste of modern Mexico, this is definitely the place.

THE NIGHT CIRCUS

Summer, is one of the best parts of the whole year, it is when some of us finally get some time to rest, relax, read and watch whatever we want, cause lets admit it, we basically look forward to returning to school or to our jobs with our brains a little atrophied from all that laziness.

Well, at the beginning of my summer a great friend of mine gave me the perfect start for my summer reading list, to keep that lazy brain of mine still working.

THE NIGHT CIRCUS

 A 2011 fantasy novel by Erin Morgenstern.

Who doesn’t love the circus? A thriller? And a tumultuous love story? well this book got it all.

A love story between two illusionists, forced since their childhood with one single purpose, to fight in a war of smarts and wit by their very demanding tutors. Set near a historical Victorian London in a wandering magical circus that is open only from sunset to sunrise. Le Cirque des Rêves, the Circus of Dreams, immerses us in a world where we can almost smell the chocolate popcorn, feel the night's electricity and touch the odd creations the circus provide for us.

A book told with many character points of views, making the story dynamic. 

With not a single moment of boredom, this book takes us on a magical journey by the hand of every crewmember of this very special circus, making us fall in love with such very different and unique people.

The circus we all wished to visit, in this entertaining book to pass away the summer hours.

I very much recommend it, after all, this fantasy books are part of what make life good ;)!
